Open-Source Volumetric Motion Capture
I can’t believe I didn’t update this.
A year or so ago, Aidan Montag embarked on a quest to design some affordable and flexible devices for motion capture, camera tracking, and, on a stretch, volume capture. We named the project chump1 for no good reason other than I needed to name it something for the GitHub repo.
So, here we are! Finally – a public release of OpenVolCap.
I cannot tell you how proud I am of Aidan, he presented this work at a workshop on Open Source for the Arts at Ohio State last week, while I was off at an AI and the Brain workshop2.
You can use it to build any of a variety of cameras ranging from LIDAR depth, stereo depth, etc. Let me know if you use it for anything. And if you’re ever by RIT you can check out our capture lab with a sweet array of these babies.
Hey look- captured in the array, and re-rendered with a fresh camera path from those captures!
